Len Goodman started off the finals with his judges’ pick Monday night on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” This was the last opportunity viewers would be able to vote for their favorite to win. Just about everyone’s favorite freestyle dance round was stellar all the way through. At the end of it all another couple was eliminated just shy of performing for the judges in the season finale.

The judges’ pick consisted of a switch-up of sorts. Earlier in the season when the celebrities had to switch up pro partners, this time it was all in reverse. Each celebrity was back with their original partner in this reversal switch-up round. James and Peta actually kissed during their tango.

Meryl and Maks were flawless in the Argentine tango. Once again the routine had the most amazing moves. Candace and Mark went through frustrations in their rehearsal film. Mark injured his shoulder, but was ready to go with their fun-stepping quickstep. Amy and Derek danced a fiery salsa despite her back acting up last week (thankfully not on live TV again).

For the freestyle James Maslow channeled his action star fantasy with a hip hop routine featuring some martial arts with a long stick. What more can be said about Maks’ and Meryl’s journey. It has taken Maks 13 seasons to get so close to the mirror ball trophy. Their contemporary dance was just the two of them on the dance floor expressing their season-long partnership.

Candace and Mark went all disco fever with costumes and backup dancers all in gold. It was definitely one of the liveliest dances. Amy closed out the night with another spectacular contemporary dance. For their dramatic ending Amy was high above the ballroom on a giant rope spinning around that was simply captivating.

One couple was eliminated, James and Peta, that caused quite a stir throughout the crowd. The season finale will be on Tuesday for two hours featuring Charlie White and Meryl Davis dancing for the first time together on wood (as Tom Bergeron put it). Near the end of the finale a new “Dancing with the Stars” champion will be crowned.
