Police announced on Thursday that they had arrested a preschool teacher for putting sleeping pills into children's sippy cups.
Debbie Gratz, 59, from Hollister, Calif., who had 20-years of experience in child care and worked at the Morgan Hill preschool at 5750 Monterey St. for 5 years, was terminated after an employee saw her putting something into the toddler's sippy cups, before they arrived Friday morning.
"She was preparing water for them, and one of the other employee's witnessed her putting something into the sippy cups," Morgan Hill Sgt. of Investigations Troy Hoefling told ABC News. "We do not know the quantity, but we believe she was breaking the pill into smaller pieces and putting it into the children's sippy cups."
The witness told school officials what happened and the administrators confronted Gratz, who admitted to putting Sominex, an over-the-counter sleeping aid into the cups.
The cups never made it to the children said the preschool administrator's of the Morgan Hill Kiddie Academy in a statement. On Monday, the administrators called the police to tell them what happened which led to serving a search warrant to Gratz at her home.
Police said that Gratz admitted to the accusations, but she did not provide a motive for her actions.
