The year of 2013 is coming to an end. As we say our goodbyes to another year and wait to welcome 2014, we will be evaluating our lives over the past year and look towards setting new goals or resolutions for the new year. Whether you had an incredible year or dealt with some very tough times, it is important to look back and see what you did during the past year.

It is perfectly healthy to set new goals for yourself. Change is very healthy and should be rewarded. It is all about your own personal attitude towards change. It is important to embrace change and not dread it. New Year's resolution help to provide a way to set an intent for change. Here's a list of tips in order to succeed for the new year.

Create realistic goals

Be true to yourself and know your limits are. Do not set yourself with a resolution that you know will be difficult to obtain. Start with a small goal and work upward from there. If you set up an unattainable goal, it will only create a probability for developing a negative self-image. It is also important to write your resolutions down and keep them somewhere you can see them easily.

Work with your strengths

When you look deep at your strengths, it will easy to find where you want to grow from there. There is always room for improvement within ourselves. It is easy as taking a class or attend a workshop. You can join a professional association or local activity group where you can work with others share your same passion.

Maintain a positive attitude

Whenever you make a change, you need to be ready both physically and mentally. It is important to stay positive even through times that are getting difficult. Remember to focus on the end result instead of what is going on at the present time. If weight loss is your goal, place a picture of your dream outfit that you want to fit into. If you want to save money, place reminders on your refrigerator, on your bathroom mirror, and even on your computer.

Get support from friends

Do not do this alone. With any change, be sure to get the support from either family or friends. Get them involved in what you want to do during the upcoming year. When you are struggling or having a bad day, be sure to go to your support team for help or a confidence booster.

Write down your progress

If you want to be completely mindful of your progress, write it all down. Start a journal and make a daily habit of writing in it. There are both traditional paper journals and as well as electronic apps on both Apple, Google and Android systems for your phone or tablet. Place a daily calender reminder to make a journal entry. After each month, go back and read all of your previous journal entries in order to see your progress. You will be surprised to see how well you are doing.
