Preparing the kitchen

kitchenChristmas is coming! Do you have plans to cook and bake? Will you be entertaining or having out of town guests coming for a visit? Let me help you get your kitchen prepared for Christmas.

Go through your pots and pans:
Take a look at all of your pots and pans. If any are rusting, discard them and buy new.

Check the plates:
Do you have enough plates for all of your guests? If not, buy paper or plastic Christmas plates. They are less expensive than buying new glass dishes and it looks like you are very festive for the season! No one will ever know the real reason you have them!

Baking pans:
If you know you will be baking several hundreds of cookies for a party or just to have for the season, be sure you have enough cookie sheets. I would say you should have 2-4 cookie sheets on hand at all times. Other kitchen items to have for baking would be:
Jellyroll pans
Wooden spoons
Aluminum foil
Wax paper
Measuring cups, wet and dry
Mixing bowls
A mixer
Airtight containers

Ingredients:
There some basic ingredients you might want to keep in your pantry for baking:
Flour
Sugar (white and brown)
Baking Powder
Baking Soda
Chocolate chips
Vanilla
Confectionery sugar
Puddings

In the refrigerator:
Milk
Eggs
Butter
Cream cheese
Heavy cream

Food for company:
If having company for a party or for a stay, there are a few staple items that will come in handy:
Eggs
Coffee
Milk
Cheese
Bread
Tea (a variety)
Mayo, mustard & ketchup
Cereal
Pasta and sauce
Meat (frozen)
Lunch meats and cheese
Biscuits (in a can)
Fresh fruit and veggies
You can take these ingredients and at breakfast, lunch or dinner create an easy meal for everyone.

Have a fun Holiday Season!
