Preparing for the Bills, Tom Brady nabs AFC honors again

Though he'll be the first to tell you that his goals are much more than weekly honors, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for week two 2011 today. Brady also received the honor after his record-setting week one performance as well.

This marks the 19th time in his career that Brady has received the honor and the third time he's won in back-to-back weeks. Only Peyton Manning has received the award more times at 20.

The honor comes on the heels of the Patriots going up 2-0 on the 2011 season after a 35-21 win over the San Diego Chargers. Brady added 423 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Add that to the 517 yards he put up in week one against the Miami Dolphins and Brady also set a record for yardage in the first two weeks of the season.

The quarterback reflected on the award during his press conference Wednesday and looked forward to this week's divisional match-up against the Buffalo Bills.

"It's always very flattering to be chosen," Brady said. "There's so many great players in the league. And really, our offense, there's 11 guys out there. There's never one player. It's not the quarterback. It's not the receivers, it's everybody."

While certainly that offense will be tested in week three against the Bills, so will the Patriots' defense. Buffalo opened their season with a 2-0 record, putting up 41 points against the Kansas City Chiefs and 38 against the Oakland Raiders.

"They're playing good," Brady added of the Bills. "They're playing good football... They've got a lot of good players over there. They're really big, physical players, athletic at linebacker, good coverage in the secondary... There're a bunch of different challenges. I think they're good in all phases and Buffalo is always a tough place to play. It should be a fun weekend."

Though the Bills come in stronger than in past years, the Patriots are just as stacked with their off-season acquisitions of Albert Haynesworth, Chad Ochocinco and others. New England also has history on their side. In their twice-yearly meetings since 2001, the Bills have only one one of the 20 games, back in 2003.

Kickoff for the New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills game at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, New York, is set for 1:00 p.m. EST. CBS has television coverage of the game.
