Preparing a place

Ovilla Christian School, a Bible based private school in Ovilla, TX, is busy preparing for the school year. Along with the nonstop action of room set up, orientation and lesson plans, teachers, staff, and students alike are all outside today, August 16, 2010, in the one hundred degree heat spreading mulch on the playground. With school starting tomorrow, OCS is preparing a place where all students will be able to learn and play in a safe and fun environment.

In Exodus 23:20, God promises the Israelites that he has prepared a place for them. He says, “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.” The Israelites are hearing these words at the base of Mount Sinai, shortly after their exodus from Egypt. The angel, God himself, moves with them in the pillar of cloud and fire. The Land of Israel is the Promised Land, their destination and the place that God has prepared.

In Matthew 25, Yeshua teaches that when he returns, he will separate the “sheep” from the “goats,” explaining that the “sheep” that he will treat with mercy are those who honor him by feeding the hungry and taking care of the sick. To these “sheep,” he says, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world (verse 34).” The kingdom is their spiritual destination and the place that God has prepared.

Just as schools prepare a place for children to learn and thrive each year, so God prepares a place for us. On earth, God provides the Promised Land of Israel as a place for his people; God also provides his angel of protection and guidance for those still living in the wilderness. In the heavenly kingdom about which Yeshua speaks, God provides a spiritual inheritance.

Through the hustle and bustle of the new school year, we can be confident that as hard as we work to provide a place for our children, God has worked to prepare a place for us, and we have his angel of protection via his Torah (Yeshua) and his angel of guidance via his Spirit to lead us there.
