Prepared on the Plateau: Great take out for lunch

No time to eat at restaurants during lunchtime? Several establishments on the eastern part of the Plateau offer ready-made dishes to eat in or take out.

First stop after Mont-Royal metro is Première Moisson (860 Mont-Royal E.), part of the pastry chain of the same name, which offers a lunch special combo of a main dish, soup and coffee or tea for $10 before tax. Main dish choices range from salmon with mustard sauce to chicken tournedos, and soups are usually some kind of cream of vegetable. Desserts include a pastry, tart or cake, depending on what’s on offer.

Further east along Mont-Royal is Les Délices Bio (1327 Mont-Royal E.), a healthier alternative consisting of homemade organic meals. The lunch special is $9 before tax and includes a salad, soup and main course that rotates daily between Sheppard’s pie, Bali chicken, chicken pâté or pasta, Tunisian ragout, Russian casserole, Makhani tofu, moussaka and lasagna. Desserts are made with spelt flour and contain very little sugar or none at all. In all, this small outfit produces over 150 dishes and has been in operation for 15 years.

Continuing east along Mont-Royal Avenue, the more upscale Pâtisserie les 3M (1459 Mont-Royal E.) opened its doors in 2009 and is a true French artisanal bakery serving pre-made gourmet dishes consisting of different fish or meats in sauces accompanied by vegetables and rice, potatoes or pasta. Although desserts are not included, they are worth trying, particularly the pastries, small tarts and cakes.

Finally, those who are a little more strapped for time can always pop by Maison du Rôti (1969 Mont-Royal E.), a popular butcher that provides pre-packaged meals of various meat-based dishes including game such as bison and rabbit. Open until 9pm daily.
