Prepared childbirth classes at CoxHealth

Individuals go to school or take classes for a number of things in life. Why not take a class for having a baby? Thankfully, CoxHealth has it covered. Throughout the year, there are a number of classes designed for parents who have never had children, or parents who need a refresher course. While this year is almost over, it is not too late to register for a class. And, yes, Dads can attend many of the classes as well.

First and foremost, Cox offers “Special Delivery Tours” for expectant parents. After registering for the “Prepared Childbirth” class, expectant parents can meet at the West Pavilion entrance of Cox South at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month.

In order to get the “Special Delivery Tours,” individuals must enroll in the “Prepared Childbirth” class. Although a four-week series of classes is offered (6:30 - 9:00 p.m.), this late in the year expectant parents need to enroll in the two-night accelerated series, or the one-day accelerated class. The two-night series runs from 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. and costs $50. The two classes left for 2011 are Monday, November 7 and 14, or Monday, December 5 and 12. The one-day accelerated class, however, is offered twice a month on Saturdays. The dates remaining for this option include November 5, November 19, December 3, and December 17. Like the rest of the classes, the cost is $50.

Also, CoxHealth offers a “Refresher Childbirth” class for individuals who need a refresher or when one parent is new to the childbirth process. The last class for the year is Monday, November 21, and the cost is $30.

Overall, CoxHealth offers a number of “Family Beginnings” classes. Each one is unique in its own way and can help expectant parents know much more about the birthing process. Having a baby is stressful enough, but these classes definitely help take some of the worry away!
