Las Vegas-based rock band The Killers have returned (sort of) with "Shot of the Night." The group premiered the first single from its upcoming greatest hits album on Monday. The glowing anthem was produced by M83's Anthony Gonzalez.
While The Killers fans hoped for a brand new album, the band will instead release a greatest hits album titled "Direct Hits." It spans all the way from The Killers' 2004 debut album "Hot Fuss" to last year's "Battle Born." There are also two brand new tracks, the aforementioned "Shot At The Night" and "Just Another Girl." Idolator.com revealed that the latter will see the band reunited with producer Stuart Price.
"Shot At The Night" has the space age kick of The Killers' "Day & Age" album but it is taken to the next level with M83's Gonzalez at the helm. Singer Brandon Flowers' soulful vocals float over the track's atmospheric production as he pleas, "Give me a shot at the night." Just like most of The Killers' back catalog, "Shot At The Night" is a massive and anthemic number. If only this previewed a new album of similar material, but it will instead be one of this year's best one-off releases.
"Shot At The Night" will be released to iTunes on September 17. The Killers' "Direct Hits" album will drop on November 11.
