The chasm between Miss USA pageant directors and Miss California Carrie Prejean appears to have widened this week when the contest runner-up was missing from a PSA filming.
The pageant’s state directors Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler, along with beauty queens past and present, were in Santa Monica Thursday to film a PSA entitled "I Believe … The Beauty of California," according to a Fox News story.
Prejean was not at the studio in Santa Monica to record the message (expected to hit the web next week) which is aimed at promoting the diversity of California and includes such lines as "I believe when I express my opinion I have a responsibility to do it in a way that respects others who may not agree … I believe in love … I believe when two people with opposite views communicate with love and respect both points of view can be heard … I believe no one should be silenced if they are speaking from their heart with respect … I believe in the beauty of California."
Lewis told Tarts at the shoot:
"This (PSA) has been in the works forever, but it got pushed to the front burner as we started to realize there was a vacuum sucking the life out of us. We were starting to feel that people might not be seeing our vision clearly right now.
"We gathered these amazing women; these are the empowered spokespeople of our organization that are constantly in the front lines as the shining example of what this organization does. For us in state of California, its all about diversity, beauty, landscape and tourism. These are the women that are committed to that platform."
While Lewis gushed with more quotes about "really missing" Prejean, her rep said she had a "prior personal commitment otherwise she would have been glad to participate."
Perhaps still struggling with having a beauty queen runner-up that supports traditional marriage and opposes the legalization of gay marriage, Miss USA officials grapple for answers outloud:
"We are a story in evolution and the conclusion just isn’t here yet. It’s so difficult to rush to judgment with anything without really having all the information so I have to take all the information in and process it. It then goes through the Miss Universe Organization and Donald Trump is intimately involved. We are communicating through the proper channels with one another as we always do," Lewis explained. "We are just trying to move forward in what is the best way for the organization, the women, the titleholder and the state. Carrie is still Miss California USA, but right now she is not acting in the capacity of Miss California USA. She is acting as Carrie Prejean and working on things that are important to Carrie Prejean."
Another words, Carrie being Carrie does not fit the Miss USA agenda.

I wouldn't worry too much about Ms. Prejean's prospects. Even if the pageant people take away her Miss California crown, she's been making profitable use of her notoriety. I doubt she'll have to worry about employment as long as fundamentalist groups feel they can use her as a spokesperson.
I think Miss USA officials need to apologize to the STRAIGHT COMMUNITY & to Miss California. I also think MissUSA officials will have a law suit on their hangs, BIG TIME if they try to take the Tiara from Carrie...& the law suit will only STRENGTHEN Carrie's position that marriage is between MAN & WOMAN.
FIRST OF ALL: This is NOT an issue of civil rights, its a moral and ethical issue based on Liberty; and, it is that gay judge that is interfering with our right to pursue HAPPINESS. We just want to get away from something that is revolting, disgusting, and immoral. We oppose that gay judge attacking our beautiful women, our values, and making us unhappy with exposure to disgusting immorality. Now, Carrie's RIGHT to support the (NOM) and marriage between a man and a woman is based on the Declaration Of Independence (that the USA is founded upon), which states that We The People have the inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the [[ PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS ]]. In litigation thereafter, the U. S. Supreme Court declared in, ( Loving v. Virginia (1967) 388 U.S. 1 ); that, the freedom to marry is recognized as a vital [[ PERSONAL RIGHT ]] that is essential to the pursuit of happiness. As a result, that gay judge has violated the liberty rights of Carrie Prejean by condemning her pursuit of happiness to marry a MAN. That gay judge has slandered Carrie Prejean for her pursuit of traditional happiness; and, that gay judges slanderous attack is meant to destroy Carrie's career, and livelihood, because of her LAWFUL pursuit of happiness (Meyer v. Nebraska (1923) 262 US 390). You see, Carrie didn't attack him, he attacked and slandered Carrie because she rejected his method to pursue happiness, and this the way it always is, gays exist to give us a problem, where we have none.
