Pregnant woman hit in knockout attack: Sucker punch attack leads to arrest

The knockout game – It’s nothing short of disturbing. A Brooklyn pregnant woman was attacked Thursday by a passerby who slammed her in the head with his fist. Video, seen above, captured the senseless, brutal assault, and the grainy footage will now help police prosecute the perp – 33-year-old Willie Stephens.

Jannatul Ferdous, a 34-year-old Brooklyn woman from the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, was walking with her sister when Stephens passes her, decks her to the face, and knocks her out cold. Not missing a step, Stephens appears to turn around once to look at his victim while briskly walking away. The savage game earned Stephens a seat in a jail cell, where he remains today.

Writes the NY Post: “Jannatul Ferdous, a 34-year-old Brooklyn resident who is six months pregnant, was walking down a sidewalk in Bedford-Stuyvesant alongside her sister when Willie Stephens, 33, allegedly sneaked up behind her and socked her in the head around 3:45 p.m. Thursday, sources said. Ferdous was knocked unconscious during the sudden attack, but neither she nor her child was critically injured.”

In the cruel knockout game, usually a single assailant attempts to knock out an unsuspecting, random stranger, all for the sick amusement of the attacker or those watching with him. Serious injuries – even deaths – have resulted. In some cases, the assailants have been charged with hare crimes.

Jannatul was treated and released from Woodhull Hospital. After the attack occurred, her sister provided a description of her sister’s black attacker, and authorities quickly responded, nabbing Stephens just three blocks away. Police say Stephens, who was charged with assault, did not know his victim.

According to the Gothamist, earlier this week, a 72-year-old man was sucker-punched in the West Village. He's been in the hospital with bleeding of the brain and police are still looking for two suspect.
