A 16-year-old Texas teen is suing her parents in the Texas Center for Defense of Life court after they allegedly tried to force her to have an abortion. The girl got pregnant after a night of unprotected sex with her also underage boyfriend and is currently approximately nine weeks pregnant. NY Daily News claims on Feb. 13 that her parents made her get two jobs and she was physically assaulted by family trying to coerce the teen into getting an abortion.
When her parents found out, the lawsuit claims that the parents invited the paternal grandparents to a bar where the teen's mother discussed slipping her an abortion pill, which most people know doesn't exist, and the father mentioned that he was taking her to get an abortion because it was "his choice, end of story."
The teen is asking for a restraining order against her father for the remainder of her pregnancy and the teen currently resides with her grandparents who say they will help her with the baby as needed. The mother still stands firmly against the pregnancy because she doesn't believe that her daughter knows what she has gotten herself into.
While an abortion or adoption may be the best option for the teen in terms of education and doing what she wants with her time, but the choice is ultimately hers regardless of her age and what her parents wishes are. She shouldn't be forced to get rid of her child, especially if she isn't living with her parents. Many times, teens have sex because they are lonely and have strained family ties, sometimes this results in pregnancy.
Do you think that the parents have a right to force the teen to get an abortion against her will?
