"Pregnant coach dies" proclaimed the headlines on March 16, 2013. The news said that a beloved coach for the Seton Hill University women's lacrosse team had perished following a tragic bus accident on Saturday. Coach Kristina Quigley and her unborn child were transported to a hospital via helicopter, reported Yahoo! News, but they could not be saved.
The accident took place as the bus, filled with lacrosse players and coaches among others, careened off the Pennsylvania Turnpike and collided with a tree. No other automobiles were involved in the incident, and authorities are still trying to determine what caused the crash. The lacrosse team was bound for Millersville University where they were scheduled to compete against another Pennsylvania team.
In addition to the unborn child and the pregnant coach who died, one additional death was reported. The driver of the bus, 61-year-old Anthony Guaetta, has been named as a fatality. The bus was carrying a total of 23 passengers when it left the road and struck the tree. The surviving passengers were taken to various hospitals to be treated as necessary.
When a pregnant coach dies, people are left to mourn her life and the life of her unborn child, both taken far too early. May they rest in peace.
