It seems all everyone does after the Academy Awards nominees are announced as they were last week, that the topic of conversation is mostly restricted to Best Picture, Best Actor, and the aptly re-named Best Actress awards. But what about the music? It's importance to making a connection with people is obvious, however, it's much farther down on the list - unless one rotates in a musical world.
The nominees which involve music are below. "Searching For Sugar Man" is the lone music-related entry in the "Documentary Feature" category. You can learn more about the film by reading Rodriguez and "Searching for Sugar Man": success only took 40 years. The soundtrack of the film comes from music written by Rodriguez himself.
In the Original Score category it's a wash. All movies feature great scores. John Williams has been nominated numerous times and lost quite a few times. However, he's a formidable force to be reckoned with. "Skyfall" with it's theme song written by Adele and has also picked up favor with people. People may feel some dismay that the soundtrack of "Django Unchained" is nowhere to be found, however it is a compilation score from a wide variety of sources and not an original score.
In the Music-Original Song category Taylor Swift must be feeling the sting of a jilted lover. "Safe and Sound," the song she co-wrote with The Civil Wars for "The Hunger Games" lost to Adele's "Skyfall" at the Golden Globe Awards. Here TSwift wasn't even nominated. It's predicted that "Skyfall" will take this category. The original song written for "Les Miserables" might give some stiff competition.
