The Academy Awards are only a few weeks away, Hartford. Who will win and join Hartfordian, Katharine Hepburn as an Oscar winner? Below is a list of Oscar predictions in five major categories. Watch the Academy Awards on February 24, 2013.
Actor in a Leading Role
- Bradley Cooper in "Silver Linings Playbook"
- Daniel Day-Lewis in "Lincoln"
- Hugh Jackman in "Les Misérables"
- Joaquin Phoenix in "The Master"
- Denzel Washington in "Flight"
Daniel Day-Lewis will walk away with an Oscar for his role in "Lincoln". He's won most if not all of the other awards leading up to Oscar night and he gave the performance of a lifetime as Abraham Lincoln. He's all but a shoe in here.
Actor in a Supporting Role
- Alan Arkin in "Argo"
- Robert De Niro in "Silver Linings Playbook"
- Philip Seymour Hoffman in "The Master"
- Tommy Lee Jones in "Lincoln"
- Christoph Waltz in "Django Unchained"
The Actor in a Supporting Role category is a complete toss up and will prove to be one of the more interesting categories on February 24th. All of these actors have won an Academy Award before and all gave fantastic performances. If one absolutely had to choose, one of the last three, Hoffman, Jones, and Waltz, would be a safe bet.
Actress in a Leading Role
- Jessica Chastain in "Zero Dark Thirty"
- Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings Playbook"
- Emmanuelle Riva in "Amour"
- Quvenzhané Wallis in "Beasts of the Southern Wild"
- Naomi Watts in "The Impossible"
Jennifer Lawrence won the Golden Globe for her role in Silver Linings Playbook and she's the best part of that movie, but her age might work against her at the Oscars. Eighty-five year old Emmanuelle Riva has been gaining a lot of traction lately and Oscar voters like to go with movies like "Amour". Still, don't count out Jessica Chastain in "Zero Dark Thirty" who might just sneak in for a surprise win.

- Amy Adams in "The Master"
- Sally Field in "Lincoln"
- Anne Hathaway in "Les Misérables"
- Helen Hunt in "The Sessions"
- "Jacki Weaver in "Silver Linings Playbook"
Like Day-Lewis, unless her award season personality works against her, Anne Hathaway will win an Academy Award for "Les Misérables." Which is much deserved - watch her performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" here to find out why.

Ben Affleck's snub in the Best Director category might have just been the best thing that could have happened to "Argo." It created nice buzz and might catapult it all the way to Oscar glory. It's not the best movie of the year - that's arguably reserved for Spielberg's "Lincoln" - but it will win Best Picture unless another fan favorite, Silver Linings Playbook", doesn't manage to steal the prize instead.
