Predator Tour Stop # 4

I went to the Cue Bar & Lounge on Saturday to to see my old friend Tony Robles since he was having a predator tour stop there, this was my first trip to the Cue Bar so after listening to my GPS recalculate several times I finally arrived about 5 PM. I missed most of the early matches but I was able to catch a few matches before they broke for the night to return on Sunday for the final 8 players. They had 50 people enter the tournament.
I had the opportunity to sit down with Tony for a few hours just talking about his vision and hopes for his tour, it has been years since we had an chance to talk. It was very informative and enlightening. But the most surprising thing about Saturday for me was that I was stoked just being around pool again after not walking into a pool room for the past year. So I decided to make the trip back on Sunday to check out the Open/Pro tournament.
I was able to watch several matches of the new up and coming players, they are all talented players with a lot of upside potential. But the man is still Mika Immonen. I got to see several of his and Tony's matches and it was a joy and inspiration. Like it was scripted it came down to Mika and Tony in the final single race to 9 for the championship, and it was nip and tuck for the first 4 games they went back and forth each winning 2 games.
Then as usual Mika caught a gear and it was a sight to behold as he won the next 7 games, running rack after rack like a machine. He never cracked a smile and got out of line only two or three times in those seven games, the term the "Iceman" was never so appropriate. Anyone that doesn't get inspired to watch this man play can't be human; I was so inspired to get back on the table it was all I could do to not jump on the table right after the match was over.
My plan is to start a Junior Billiards league in the NYC area, there is a dire need for one because the kids and the young players are the future of the game. I believe that with the right funding and enough support and volunteer assistance this dream can be realized, anyone that has any ideas or can assist in funding or any other aspect of getting the league started.
