The following article is part of an ongoing effort to help homeless dogs in and around the Toronto/Hamilton area find suitable and loving homes. Sometimes this effort extends even further, since there are so many dogs that find themselves in dire circumstances. Currently, the need is great but the homes are few. Your help is desperately needed.
Precious Paws based in Barrie, Ontario recently took in Lilou, an adorable 4-year-old Shih Tzu/Maltese mix.
Lilou was brought in from a reserve in northern Quebec and was in rough shape. Her fur was horribly matted and she was covered in both urine and feces. As well, one of her nails had completely grown into the pad of her foot. This can be a problem with Shih Tzus and owners must ensure that they have their nails cut regularly. My Shih Tzu, Angel, has curled nails on both her rear paws that would cut right into her skin if not taken care of every few months.
Lilou is a sweet girl that gets along well with other dogs and loves to play. She is very friendly and loves to snuggle. After all that she has been through, she deserves a loving family to care for her.
She is already crate trained and walks fairly well on leash. She is learning her housetraining and her basic commands but is pretty darn smart so she should catch on soon. She has been de-wormed, had blood work done, is up-to-date on her routine vaccinations, is spayed and micro-chipped.

Precious Paws Rescue is a non-profit, all-breed dog rescue based in Barrie, Ontario dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets by rescuing from pounds and shelters across North America. The dogs come from situations where they are at risk of euthanasia - most often due to lack of space in a pound or shelter.
While in rescue, the dogs do not stay in a shelter environment but rather in private foster homes where they can receive all of the TLC that they so desperately need. This also gives Precious Paws Rescue a chance to properly assess the dogs in a home environment so they can be place in the best possible forever home.
Most often the dogs received come with minor to major medical issues. Whether it is as simple as de-worming for parasites or as costly as orthopedic surgery, they are taken in and fully vetted, including spayed/neutered and micro-chipped prior to being placed in adoptive homes.
