“Preachers of L.A.” is back on Oxygen tonight, fans of the show will be glad to hear. Well, sort of. Tonight, part one of a two-part special will air, leading up to the Season Premiere in August.
Fans will no doubt recall the premise: Six L.A.-based men of God, showing the world their good side and their not-so-holy side, all the time their wives--or, in some cases, girlfriends--at their side. For some, the “girlfriend” aspect has been a particular problem, and it is an ongoing problem this season. Minister Deitrick Haddon has made his girlfriend his wife, so she will, one would imagine, be considered a “first lady,” but whether or not the other wives will accept her immediately is something to explore. After all, last season they proved themselves to be a pretty exclusive--and at times extremely condescending--club.
Bishop Noel Jones continues his struggles with overcoming temptations of the flesh this season. And, girlfriend Loretta will likely continue to take his indecisiveness (or, rather, decisiveness on his unwillingness to marry her, if the truth be stated straight out). But, their friends and fellow cast members, Bishop Ron Gibson and First Lady LaVette, are tiring of being supportive, and a rift may be created this season that is too big to overcome. Could it be the end of the couples’ friendship?
Minister Deitrick Haddon and Pastor Jay Haizlip are good friends, but the trust between them might be challenged when Pastor Jay accuses Minister Deitrick of deceiving him at his wedding. And, speaking of marriage, Pastor Jay has some of his own challenges with his wife, First Lady Christy. Pastor Jay has had to overcome a lot of misdeeds in his life, but perhaps he has forgotten the meaning of forgiveness. When a family member needs Pastor Jay to soften his heart and have some mercy of his own, he struggles to find that forgiveness within him. And, in a classic husband-wife minefield, Pastor Wayne Chaney and First Lady Myesha are trying to find a balance between home and work, when Myesha takes on the role of executive pastor at Pastor Wayne’s church.
And, as the marriage theme continues, a wedding is at the heart of Bishop Clarence McClendon’s uneasiness, as well, as a bittersweet day approaches for this father: his daughter’s wedding.
Tonight, Grammy Award-winning recording artist Michelle Williams sits down with the cast of “Preachers of L.A.” and discusses last season. Season Two of “Preachers of L.A.” will premiere on Oxygen on August 20 at 10/9c.
