The Annual Pre Father's Day 5K Race held on Saturday, June 13th in the Wanamassa section of Ocean Twp started on a somber note with a moment of silence at the starting line just about the same time that Trooper Castellano's funeral mass was starting a few miles away in Howell.
With several hundred participants the weather for the race itself was nearly ideal with an overcast sky and moderate temperatures in the 60's. The runners started near the Wanamasssa Elementary School and made their way through the tree lined neighborhoods of the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township.
Leading the pack was Michael Conboy of Brielle in a time of 16:07 shown finishing in the photo show below and for the women it was Allison Linnell of Colts Neck in 18:12 shown finishing in the photo show with her dad right behind her in the photo. Holding the finishing tape were on the left Angela Huenerfauth of Bradley Beach and Race Director, Mike Washakowski of Ocean Township and PBA 57President Dan Weber.
After the 5K race kids races of various distances were held. Awards were then presented to overall, age group and the many special divisions appropriate for the day. Refreshments were served to all and many random prizes were awarded to the crowd that remained for the awards.
The JSRC will be making a donation from the race to the State Troopers Fraternal Association of New Jersey "Trooper Castellano Children's Fund," to benefit the two young children left behind when New Jersey State Trooper Marc K. Castellano was fatally struck Sunday during a search effort along Interstate 195 in Howell.. Additional Donations will be collected at the race or can be sent in care of the STFA Trooper Castellano Children's Fund, to 2634 Highway Route 70, Manasquan, NJ 08736
