Sanya Weathers, from Undead Labs, took to the “State of Decay” forums today in order to describe the game’s pre-certification process to fans anticipating the zombie game currently in development for Xbox Live. Weathers explained that the developer is currently working with two different groups at Microsoft. The first is the “State of Decay” publisher, Microsoft Studios, who is currently quality testing the upcoming zombie title. The second is called the Xbox Platform group. This party’s soul interest is to ask, "Does this game meet the technical requirements? Is every inch functional and stable or will it set a customer's Xbox on fire?” This team, the Xbox Platform group, is who decides what content is acceptable to go on Xbox Live. They are who run the certification process.
So the current state of “State of Decay” involves Microsoft Studios’ QA team looking for bugs and other game problems while Undead Labs then squashes these issues so that the zombie game can get to a point that the Xbox Platform group can approve the game in an official certification process.
“State of Decay” is currently in development for Xbox Live Arcade. Undead Labs will be bringing the game to PAX East this year. The developer is adamant that it will not announce a release date due to the innate uncertainty involved with the Xbox Live certification process.
