Pre-Beatles song featured in new video to promote Lennon bio 'Nowhere Boy'

A new video for the John Lennon bio film "Nowhere Boy" features the Quarrymen song "In Spite of All the Danger. The video is now on YouTube and you can see it here on this page.

The song was written in 1958 by George Harrison and Paul McCartney and features Lennon on lead vocal. The Quarrymen version was originally recorded at Phillips Sound Recording Service at a cost of 88p and the song became a 78 RPM demo record. That version was finally issued on "Anthology 1."

The recording used in the video and for the film was recorded by star Aaron Johnson ("Kick-Ass"), who portrays Lennon. The video version, which was directed by Martin Lewis, also adds the opening chord from "A Hard Day's Night" at the end.

Of the film, Lewis says, "The story of the birth of the Beatles is one of the most improbable, yet totally true tales in history. One young boy from a provincial city who is wrestling with the consequences of a complex family life develops the drive and determination to escape his background. Music becomes his rock 'n' roll ticket-to-ride out of the nowhere of post-war Liverpool. The film 'Nowhere Boy' tells that story in an authentic and poignant way."
