In December, we reviewed the DVD "The Quarrymen: The Band That Started the Beatles." (You can read our review here.) At that time, the DVD was only available by mail order from Germany. The package included a PAL disc for European TVs and a special NTSC disc so the film could be played on U.S. TVs. At that time, an NTSC version was not available in the U.S.
But we've just received word from Germany from the film's producer, Garrick Danker Medienproduktion, that the NTSC version of "The Quarrymen: The Band That Started the Beatles" (cover at left) has just become available directly through Amazon.com. It can be ordered through the link.
Beatles history buffs will certainly enjoy this documentary that includes interviews with the Quarrymen talking at length about their music and history. The film also includes footage from several live performances.
You can see a trailer for the film at the left.

I asked Rod (Davis) about this just last month when the Quarry Men played in Arlington MA (Regent Theater) along with a preview of "Nowhere Boy"
He didn't hold out much hope for a NTSC release but apparently it was in the works!
I hadn't ordered the PAL version yet but just ordered THIS one!
Thanks, Richard. Well, like I said, you'd get an NTSC disc with the PAL one, but this is a better deal.
I guess it was explictly a US release that he was referring to . I had checked out the German and
Quarrymen sites but this is easier (and less expensive).
He did say most US users could watch the PAL version
on their computer DVD drives (mine is left set up for PAL to watch UK discs I can only change the region a few times...) still have to get a multiregion player
Richard: Multi region players aren't as expensive as one might think. You can pick one up on Amazon for the same price as regular players.
There is a short hidden special on the U.S.-version! Klick the "T" of "The Quarrymen" (main menu)! Then go to the right and klick :) :) :).
