"Monica cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted her request". 1 Chronicles 4:10
Well, that is not exactly what it says. It was some guy name Jabez who prayed this prayer. Some years ago many Christians indulged in a fad called praying the prayer of Jabez. I say fad because this call to prayer had many believing that this scripture was a magic incantation prayed in hopes of ensuring that God would eradicate poverty from their lives.
Contrary to what some may believe and preach, Jabez was not requesting that God would give him more land, more followers or more wealth. The enlarging of Jabez's borders had nothing to do with personal gain. The enlargement of his borders had to with destroying Israel's enemies.
When the enemy has encamped himself in my territory, he must be driven out. Thus when God increases my territory He simultaneously decreases the territory of my enemy. God is driving my enemies out of my promised land. That is how my territory is enlarged.
Have no doubt, I will suffer pain in this life, but I will not be defined by my pain. Hurt and harm may form, but they will not prosper. No matter what my circumstances may be, I will be blessed because the Hand of the Lord is upon my life. Oh, that the Lord would bless me and enlarge my territory!
