Prayer: What is it? Do we need it?

"A little lad was keeping his sheep one Sunday morning. The bells were ringing for church, and the people were going over the field, when the little fellow began to think that he, too, would like to pray to God. But what could he say? He had never learned a prayer. So he knelt down and commenced the alphabet—A, B, C, and so on to Z.

'A gentleman happening to pass on the other side of the hedge heard the lad’s voice, and, looking through the bushes, saw the little fellow kneeling with folded hands and closed eyes, saying, “A, B, C.” “What are you doing, my little man?” “Please, sir, I was praying.” “But what are you saying your letters for?” “Why, I didn’t know any prayer, only I felt that I wanted God to take care of me and help me to care for the sheep; so I thought if I said all I knew, he would put it together and spell all I want.'”

“Bless your heart, my little man, He will, He will, He will. When the heart speaks right, the lips can’t say wrong.”

Prayer?

Proseuche (Greek: meaning prayer) a word of sacred character used to describe the childlike confidence and heartfelt communicative dialogue with God.

Prayer is never a one way street down a dead end road.  It’s a dual universe that transcends time, space, oppositions, and environments.  With confidence or faith tied to the end of each prayer the boost is given to ensure that what was said was heard, and what was heard deserves an answer.

Where are you?

Immediately as one humbles themselves to pray, Gods turns His attention and faces them eye to eye, centering upon their world, their troubles, their doubts and fears, with an unflinching remarkable interest.

“Adam where are you?” Is not a question referring to Gods limited ability to know where you’re at, but about your desire to reveal your present condition, your current situation.

He went through it

For God so loves the world; not just Christians, not just Jews, but the homosexual, the killer, the child abuser, the thief, the fornicator, and the adulterer, that He gave the very best thing He had, Himself.

He understands the harsh reality because He went through it.  He understand the pressures of life, because He overcame it, and prayer (conversation with God) develops a lifestyle of victory, for He walks with you in every part of your life that you have allowed Him to bring a joyous triumph over things you could never defeat without Him.

Prayer works

Chuck Pierce through prayer boldly declared in 2004 that in the coming election (presidential election of 2008) an African American man would be President.

Through prayer people are healed; familes find forgiveness, and those bound by depression, afflictions, and oppression are set free.

Jesus the Messiah, over 2000 years ago prayed, and with a voice of compassion cried,

“For at that time there will be great suffering, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.  And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.  Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look!  Here is the Messiah! Or ‘There he is!’ – do not believe it.  For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and produce great signs and omens, to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.  Take note, I have told you beforehand.  So, if they say to you, ‘Look!  He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out.  If they say, ‘Look!  He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.  For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.  Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.”  Matthew 24:21-28 NRSV

What will God reveal to you if only you reveal to Him where you are at.  Show to Him your heart with confidence and He will reveal His.  "Man cannot live on bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God."  Matthew 4:4 NRSV

Yesterday Pat Robertson announced that from prayer God showed him what was to come for America including the next President.  Let time be the judge.  For all that is true will be revealed in time.
