For those old enough and aware enough to remember Pravda should remember the almost comical way they would report stories during the heyday of the Soviet Union. Their attempts to cover up the failings of the USSR led to lies, distortions and cover-ups of the truth- all to portray the communist system as paradise on earth when in reality it was more like perdition incarnate. Food shortages, lines for basics of life and lack of decent medical care all were ignored while stories were invented out of thin air which purported to show the "success" of the Soviet system.
It appears we have our own "Pravda" right here in the good old USA. MSNBC has gone so far around the bend they can only be considered the PR arm of the Obama Administration at this point. A case in point is Andrea Mitchell's interview with Wisconsin Representative Sean Duffy. In an attempt to portray Duffy and his party as obstructionist and stubborn for their position on the budget stalemate, Mitchell tried to school Duffy and ended up in the corner wearing a dunce cap.
This is just the latest in the network's continuing campaign to promote everything this administration has tried to do to fundamentally transform the USA from a Constitutional Republic to something more resembling the old Soviet Union. Parroting administration talking points like they are gospel and selective coverage of events only serve to further destroy this network's credibility as a news source.
The problem, however, is becoming symptomatic of the majority of what used to be known as the "Mainstream Media". Want an example? The President held a press conference yesterday and answered questions for almost an hour yet no one asked this simple question (or anything close), "Mr. President, how do you respond to those who have accused you of trying to inflict pain on Americans for political gain?" The follow up could have been the WWII Memorial being blockaded to prevent Honor Flight participants from easily accessing the monuments they were responsible for as one example. There are many.
No, instead the press allowed the President to pontificate on the Republicans unyielding stubbornness as they steadfastly refuse to agree to his "reasonable" positions on everything. Considering how pathetically this media has covered President Obama I thought they might be on the government payroll but I haven't heard them complaining about any furloughs so I guess not.
The long run implications of this dereliction of duty by the Fourth Estate will be damaging to the country. I fear the best case scenario is that the entire country quits paying any attention at all to them further contributing to the dumbing down of American political discourse. The worst case would be if the media malpractice continues until these folks destroy what's left of the American political experiment and turn us into a socialist, Western European democracy- destined for the ash heap of history.
