Prairie View A&M's senior defensive end Adrian Hamilton could find himself in serious consideration for a major national award if he continues playing like he did against Southern Saturday.
Hamilton was named The Sports Network/Fathead.com National Defensive Player of the Week for the NCAA's Football Championship Subdivision.
In the Panthers' 23-20 victory against the Jaguars in Baton Rouge, Hamilton made seven tackles, two sacks, two other tackles for loss and forced two fumbles. The effort limited Southern to only 257 yards of total offense.
For the season, Hamilton has 49 tackles to lead PV.
The Dallas native is one of the top defensive players in the FCS this season. Currently, he is ranked no. 1 in tackles for loss (15) and for sacks (11). He is tied for second in the nation with four forced fumbles (the other player is Alvin Scioneaux of Wofford).
According to The Sports Network/Fathead.com, Hamilton is a contender for the Buck Buchanan Award, given by The Sports Network to the top defender in the FCS at the end of the season. The trophy is award the night before the FCS championship game.
