Prairie Days Celebration: June 24-26, Prairie City, Iowa

Every summer, a sleepy, forgotten town comes to life for just a few days. The residents of Prairie City come out of their homes and head to the square for live music, games, and socializing.

For over 100 years, the quiet bedroom community of Prairie City has come together to celebrate it's past and present. "Prairie Days", as it's affectionately called, is a weekend-long event sponsored by the Prairie City Celebration Committee and multiple businesses in town.

This year's Prairie Days starts at 5pm on Friday, June 24th, 2011, and ends at 10am on Sunday, June 26th. The carnival, food stands, and market stands will be available until Saturday evening, as will a treasure hunt and bingo.

Scheduled events include the annual water fights in front of the Post Office at 7pm on Friday, kids games and races at 10am Saturday, live music both Friday and Saturday night, and fireworks at 10pm Saturday. Car show, Jell-O eating and texting contest, spelling bee, story time, parades, and other activities are also planned.
