I’m staying in the Prague Marriott and it’s a revelation. The hotel is very comfortable: marble floors in the lobby, soft lighting, rooms with kingsize beds, there’s even an electrical receptacle for US plugs. Everything is clean as a pin and everyone speaks English. This hotel has the USA all over it. I love it. I have been missing home on a trip I’ve been making around Europe and this is a surprising break from the pressure of occasionally not knowing how to behave in a foreign country. This is like living in an American embassy. I’m really impressed.
The first day I was in Prague I was met in the lobby of the Marriott by Milos Curik, a licensed tour guide. He was a great companion and knows the city cold.
We set out on what was to be a 6 hour tour of Prague. It’s a magical city full of towers, spires and turrets. “Amadeus” was almost exclusively filmed here. The tour made me want to see it again. One piece of advice for you is if you take a tour of Prague be sure to bring your camera. You’ll be sad if you don’t. My camera broke in Slovakia and so I was saddened not to be able to photograph the beauties of Prague. It’s a fairy tale city, magical.
The first evening I was at the hotel I ate dinner at the steak house in the hotel. In a hotel this American how could there be anything more appropriate than a steak house? The meal was outstanding and afterward I interviewed the Chef Jan Wiesner.
I asked him where he trained? In Germany and a year in England.
Where were you before you came to Marriott? He worked as a chef in Germany and Switzerland
I asked him what his goals were when working with his staff? He wants great teamwork and to make the customers happy.
He certainly does that and he delivers a great product. If you travel to Prague and want to have a meal in the restaurant of the Prague Marriott and you’re not staying at the hotel, I’m sure that it’s possible. His food is not to be missed. Go and stay at the Marriott but if you can’t get into the hotel you should at least try to sample the food in the steak house!
