Practice report: Justin Smith practices for the second straight day

Defensive tackle Justin Smith was in practice for the second consecutive day on Friday afternoon. He was in full participation for practice, but was still wearing a brace on his left elbow.

Smith has missed practice for the last two weeks prior to this one since suffering the injury against the Patriots.

LB Tavares Gooden (ribs), LB Aldon Smith (shoulder), CB Tarell Brown (shoulder), FB Bruce Miller (shoulder) and DT Will Tukuafu (neck) were all in a black non-contact jersey. No one wore a black jersey yesterday because it was a walk-through practice.

With Smith practicing in uniform, everyone was at practice on Friday working on drills and warm ups.

In day 2 of the kicking derby, Billy Cundiff appeared to have the upper hand on David Akers with a stronger (and fresher) leg. Both kickers were consistently splitting the uprights in warm ups, but Cundiff stood out making kicks from 50 or more yards.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh said he will decide who will kick in the postseason by the end of this week, but the decision could be delayed until next week.

The second-seeded 49ers (11-4-1) are off this weekend and will face either the No. 3 Green Bay Packers (11-5), who host the Minnesota Vikings (10-6), or the winner between the No. 6 Seattle Seahawks (11-5) and No. 5 Washington Redskins (10-6) if the Vikings win on Saturday.
