PR, Strategy, Innovation, Documentation - Oh My

After reinventing my own career back in 2009 after a sudden layoff with a company that was not forward in it's thinking and or abilities, I was forced to get out of my comfort zone.  Having presented ideas to upper management, I soon realized I was saying all the right things to ALL the wrong people. Dinosaurs in the corporate industry.

Yes, comfort zone.  Many who claim to be in PR, marketing, social media, blah blah blah... get in a comfort zone of complacency.  This problem not only plagues individuals, but companies, communities, and states.  Take for instance Rhode Island, where I currently live - many are suffering as a result of complacency with the unemployment rate being one of the highest in the country.

If you are not ALWAYS thinking of new and innovative ways to represent your client, brand, company or message, start digging your career grave now.

Everything has changed... Everything.  And it is ALL about strategic vision.

If you, like me are always thinking of new and different ways to help your clients - write it down and then do it.  Stick to your passion and stick to what you know.  However, there is a cautionary tail here.  Be careful to claim your ideas in a timely manner and document them.  Since we live in a little greedy world - there are those we consult with that turn around and claim various strategy as their own, when in fact they are clueless.

In this economy, many are trying to stand out in the companies they work for by multitasking.  However - the problem with that is- you cant be good at everything- so stick to something and be the best at that and KNOW YOUR ROLE.
