3-time Grammy winning rapper T.I. has been in the national headlines a lot in the past week for his "fight" with boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a Las Vegas Fatburger. Now he has made news here in Central Iowa by announcing a tour date at the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines. T.I. will bring his "Celebrity Takeover" tour to the venue on June 28 at 8 p.m. The Atlanta rapper has five platinum albums and two gold albums. His last six albums have topped the R&B and Rap charts, and three of them have topped the Billboard 200. T.I also has four #1 Rap singles to his credit. He plans to release his ninth studio album later this year. Tickets to the all ages Val Air show are $40, and VIP tickets are available for $65. Fans can gain backstage access for $150. All of these ticket packages are available through the Val Air box office and TicketWeb.
Powerman 5000 will return to Des Moines on August 4 for a 5:30 p.m. show at Wooly's. The Boston rockers played LAZERfest in Des Moines earlier this month and will return to the city with a new album (Builders of the Future, due out May 27) in tow on a co-headlining tour with Hed PE and tour openers Sunflower Dead. As For You, Murder Earth, and Cirrus Minor will supply local support for the show. Co-headliners Hed PE will also bring a new album to town with them, as their latest, Evolution, drops on July 22. Tickets for the all ages event are $20 in advance and $23 at the door. They may be purchased through Wooly's or Ticketfly.
Switchfoot will also be making a stop at Wooly's in the coming months. The San Diego-based rockers will play the venue on July 2 at 7:30 p.m. Switchfoot has won a Grammy Award, three ASCAP Awards, and 11 Dove Awards. The band released their latest album, Fading West, in January with an accompanying behind-the-scenes film documentary. Fading West became the band's sixth album to top the Christian chart and their first to top the Alternative chart. The album also has reached #2 on the Rock chart and #6 on the Billboard 200. Tickets for the all ages concert are $25, and they are available through Wooly's and Ticketfly. No opening bands have been announced.
Taking Back Sunday and The Used will co-headline an event at the Seven Flags Event Center on October 4 at 7 p.m. New York alt-rockers Taking Back Sunday watched their March release Happiness Is become the band's fourth to crack the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Their Utah-based tourmates The Used already have four Top 10 albums and hope their latest, the April 1 release Imaginary Enemy (peaking at #14 so far), becomes their fifth. Tickets to see the bands' all ages show are $27.50 in advance and $30 at the door. They may be purchased through the Seven Flags box office and Ticketfly. No opening acts have been announced yet for this show.
Finally, multi-platinum Eighties and Nineties rockers Tesla are back with a new album. The Sacramento-based band will release Simplicity, their first album in three years, on June 6. The accompanying tour will bring Tesla to Terrible's Lakeside Casino in Osceola on July 12 for a 7:30 p.m. outdoor show. General admission tickets for the show will be $25, and tiered seats will be $35. Both are available through the casino and Red Truck Tickets. You must be 21 or older to attend this concert.
