Did anyone win the Powerball jackpot? You betcha! Congratulations to the South Carolina Powerball jackpot winner! One South Carolina lottery winner matched all six Powerball winning numbers on Sept. 18, 2013 for the massive $400 million jackpot. The Powerball winning numbers results are 7, 10, 22, 32, 35, and the red Powerball number is 19. According to CNN NEWS on Thursday, Sept. 19, the lucky South Carolina Powerball lottery winner purchased their ticket at a Murphy USA on Augusta Road in Lexington.
"Paula Harper Bethea, the executive director of South Carolina Lottery, says the ticket was sold at a highway gas station in that 5.8-square-mile town of 17,800. Wednesday's haul was the fourth largest lottery price in U.S. history."
The South Carolina winning Powerball ticket is actually worth $399.4 million to be exact, but seriously, who's going to quibble over a measly $600,000? NBC NEWS announced a press conference was planned for 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the store that sold the winning ticket to announce the south Carolina Powerball winner.
The South Carolina Powerball lottery winner now has a real tough job ahead of him or her. The first decision will be whether or not they want to take the entire $400 million jackpot or the cash prize of $223 million. The difference in payout options is, the South Carolina Powerball winner will have to take the $400 million annuity paid out in 30 annual payments. That's a long time to wait for your money! If they choose the one time cash lump sum payment, they can have it all at once, but will have to settle for just $223 million, or about $134 million after taxes.
September 18 Powerball Results and Winners
Congrats to all the other September 18 Powerball winners! In addition to the $400 million South Carolina Powerball jackpot winner, nearly three million lottery winners matched the correct Powerball winning numbers to win prizes ranging from $4 to $2 million in the September 18 drawing. There were three (3) Match 5 + 0 Powerball Power Play winners that will be receiving $2 million checks from the Florida Lottery and Pennsylvania Lottery commissions (one state sold two $2 million Powerball winning tickets). Ten (10) $1 million Powerball winners purchased their Powerball winning tickets from the California, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and South Carolina lottery commissions, with multiple winning tickets sold in a few states. Had they spent an extra dollar on the Power Play option like the Florida Powerball winner and Pennsylvania Powerball winner, their prize winnings winnings would have instantly doubled from $1 million to $2 million as well.
Additionally, there were one-hundred-sixty-nine (169) Match 4 + 1 winners for $10,000 each in the September 18 drawing. Twenty-eight (28) of those Powerball winners bought the Power Play option for an extra dollar, which instantly increased their prize amount to $40,000. Each winner matched four out of five Powerball winning numbers, AND the red Powerball number for the third-tier prize.
