The Powerball results for winning numbers are set to be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, in a drawing that is worth several hundred million before taxes for any lucky winners. There were no winners back on Saturday, leading to the latest jackpot prize, which is worth an estimated $227.8 million for the cash option. Local TV station WDBJ 7 in Roanoke will be among those providing the winning numbers.
Winning numbers update: Wednesday's winning numbers are 1, 17, 35, 49, 54 and a Powerball of 34.
According to WDBJ 7 in a Feb. 17 report, Wednesday night’s drawing is worth a total of $400 million before taxes. If there is a sole winner, they get to choose an annual payment plan which results in the full $400 million, or a one-time cash option of $227.8 million before taxes. The Roanoke-based news station notes that the latest drawing revealing winning numbers for the jackpot will be shown to television viewers during the first commercial break of the 11 p.m. Eastern Standard Time news telecast.
The Powerball drawings are shown on television twice weekly, with one drawing on Wednesday night, and the other on Saturday nights. Since nobody matched Saturday’s winning numbers of 2, 9, 14, 21, 23 and Powerball of 3, the jackpot grew to its latest staggering amount. Should there be no grand prize winners in Wednesday night’s drawing, the jackpot is likely to grow to half a billion dollars or more before taxes.
The Powerball.com website indicates that Virginia had 23,279 total winners for Saturday’s drawing with five tickets matching four numbers and the red Powerball number. The prize given for that combination is $10,000.
