Powerball payout is now over $300 Million for the next drawing. With no jackpot winner in Wednesday's draw, the top prize has swelled to $317 million. The winning numbers for Wed., Sept. 11, 2013 were 11, 19, 33, 42, and 52, with a Powerball number of 33. According to United Press International on September 12, 2013, this is following a trend where players wait for big prizes before buying tickets.
In August, "Good Morning America" co-anchor Robin Roberts suggested the astronomical growth of recent pots was due to the public's aversion to purchasing tickets before the prizes reach nine digits.
The Powerball payout was $448.4 million as reported here last month, "Powerball winners: Three split $448 million jackpot," was split amongst three winners in New Jersey and Minnesota. There have been 10 drawings in a row now with no jackpot winner since Aug. 10. The top prize up for grabs on Saturday is the 17th largest United States lottery jackpot in history.
A record Powerball payout was awarded in May to a single winner Florida as reported here, "Powerball winning ticket: $590.5 million record jackpot ticket sold in Florida." Gloria MacKenzie, 84, was the sole lucky winner earlier this year.
