Truth be told, I actually hate bars. I am a big believer in whole foods and balance nutrition and I have always thought of these "nutrition bars" as one of the biggest schemes. Under all the sugar and additives is there really real food that is good for someone?
Well, over the past few weeks I have done a little detective work with Clif Bar and their new line of Mojo bars!
Check out these flavor options:
- Wild blueberry almond (my favorite!)
- Chocolate almond peanut
- Cranberry almond
- Dark chocolate cherry almond
- Dark chocolate almond sea salt
I was actually pretty shocked to see real (still moist) fruit as I peeled open my first bar. I took a bite and I instantly fell in love. The bar I was eating was the wild blueberry almond, and I must say it was pretty tasty! The berries were still moist and sticky -- the bar was in no way hard and stale, but ooey-gooey and delicious! The ingredients were not pulverized and processed beyond recognition, but still in their whole form. I could clearly see almonds and blueberries, which added to the textural deliciousness of the bar.
But now, onto the nutritional facts... dun dun dun!
- The bars are all gluten-free
- They are low glycemic index foods which means your blood sugar won't spike.
- They use organic ingredients
- Each bar is about 8 or 9 grams of fat and approx 180 calories.
The only thing that jumped out to me was the 13 grams of sugar in the bars with dark chocolate... but then again, if chocolate is your snack - you've got to at least expect that amount -- and just make sure to regulate it at other meals. What I figure is -- if you are eating chocolate as a snack #1. don't do it too often #2. Make sure it's just a snack, not a meal and #3. Make sure you get in some other good things along the way with it!
I am so very happy that I gave the Clif Bar Mojo a whirl! You should too! For more information visit www.clifbar.com
