Power to the Peaceful remembered 9/11 and encouraged positive social change with a free music and art festival in Golden Gate Park.  Musician and activist Michael Franti (of Michael Franti & Spearhead) began the festival over a decade ago to bring music to the people and ignite a passion to participate in the future of humanity.

"Over the years, 'Power to the Peaceful' has changed from a protest event to an action event. We bring in over 100 social justice and environmental organizations. We bring people into the park, with music -- and we invite people to volunteer. I feel that that's the best way to remember September 11 ... volunteering to do something positive is so much better than burning the Quran," Franti told Spinner before hitting the stage.

Nearly 70,000 strong, the peaceful people gathered to join the movement. Art, yoga, food, and of course, music brought together a diverse and beautiful crowd. One thing is for certain, San Franciscans have a style all their own; it’s self expression in its most personal form.
