Power promotions schedule may bring fans back

I guess if you can’t get fans in the building because of your team’s production, you better try to entice them with free stuff. The Pittsburgh Power recently released their 2013 promotions schedule that includes $1 fountain drinks and hot dogs all season while giving away coolers, t-shirts, headphones as well as other Power gear. The ambitious giveaways seem to be a way of trying to bring back fans that were faithful in 2011 while attracting new fans to the game.

The Power saw impressive attendance numbers in their inaugural season because of the initial novelty of the AFL as well as an impressive playoff run that kept fans engaged until the very end of the season.

In 2012 however, the curiosity of arena football lost its luster and the Power struggled to a 5-13 record that essentially made them irrelevant at the midway point of the season. A mixture of these two components most likely made last year’s attendance numbers less than satisfactory for Power ownership.

Ultimately, a championship contender is the best way to attract new and disconnected fans. However, getting a bunch of free and cheap stuff is a start.
