Power hitting Mariners spring streak at ten after 16-7 pummeling of Rockies

Rub your eyes and read the headline again. I know! The whole thing looks wrong. The Seattle Mariners, a poor hitting team of almost historic measure in 2012, are lighting up the Arizona sky with bombs and have won 10 straight. Today's 16-7 beat down of the Colorado Rockies only made manager Eric Wedge's smile a little wider.

"We've got some proven veteran big league hitters in here and they've made a big difference, but we've also got some young guys that have continued on the path and swung the bat well," Wedge said after today's game.

While Mariners fans should certainly hold off planning their post-season baseball trips, there is ample reason for enthusiasm. The M's have 24 home runs in 11 games and the bounty is being spread around. Outfielders Franklin Gutierrez and Carlos Peguero lead the team in home runs with three, and a total of 16 Mariners have rung the home run bell so far this spring.

Now for a word from Debbie Downer. The dry air of spring in Arizona is not the cool moist air of April in the Emerald City. That said, Seattle has added some strength to a team that desperately needed it. Ten wins in a row is impressive no matter the month in which it is accomplished. With 28 days to go until the games count for real. the Mariners are creating some buzz. Mariner Fan says, "Isn't it good to hear?"
