Powdered alcohol, to be called “palcohol,” may be available at food and beverage stores as early as the end of this year. The U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau have given their approval to a new powdered alcohol product set to be on grocery shelves – plus a lot of other places – reports the Inquisitr on Sunday, April 20, by the fall of this year.
Amazingly, the parent company was surprised by the announcement. They state they were “caught off guard” by the information released by the TTB. Apparently the products are almost ready for prime time, but the website was not. It has now been modified. The patent is still pending. It seems that inventor Mark Phillips and discoverer John D. Messinger are still working their way through the system, although the TTB hurdle is a large one. The approval must have come through more quickly than expected.
This revolutionary product, reported UPI Business News, comes in seven different flavors, and the Palcohol company sees it as an answer to the rising cost of liquid alcohol. “What’s worse than going to a concert, sporting event, etc. and having to pay $10, $15, $20 for a mixed drink with tax and tip. Are you kidding me?!” This quote, according to UPI, was taken from the original website and now removed.
The developers also suggest that adding the powder to food can be fun and entertaining. Of course it can, especially if the consumers don’t know the stuff it there.
But everyone seems to see it as an answer to a host of other problems, such as taking alcohol into places where it is forbidden. Potential advertising suggests using the product responsibly, but the opportunities for illegal use abound.
Meanwhile, margaritas, cosmos, mojitos and Lemon Drops are among the flavors to be available when the powdered alcohol hits the market. Imagine powdered Lemon Drops sprinkled on lemon drop candies. One more thing to keep out of the hands of children.
