Sure, Snowbasin Resort hosted the Olympic downhill events in the 2002 Winter Games, but the Utah ski area has a new claim to fame. On Monday, Cintas, a commercial restroom service and supply company, announced that Snowbasin is one of the ten finalists in its annual "America's Best Restroom" contest. An online vote at bestrestroom.com through Sept. 17 will decide which restroom takes the throne above all others this year.
Snowbasin's restrooms feature Italian Carrera marble, Barovier, Tosso & Moscatelli chandeliers crafted from bronze and crystal, floor-to-ceiling commodes, inlaid African Anegre wood and hand-painted walls. Although Snowbasin is the first ski area nominated in the ten years of the contest, Killington skiers could take a side trip to nearby Proctor, Vt., to find relief at a 2007 nominee in the Vermont Marble Museum. Last year, the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City was nominated, but the chance for the contest's first Utah winner went down the drain when The Fountain on Locust restaurant in St. Louis earned the T.P. (top prize).
Snowbasin's posh potties may just now be receiving mainstream attention, but those in the know on yelp, ski area review sites, snowboarding blogs, and even youtube have long been flush with pride over Snowbasin's places for a luxury pit stop.
