Poway Library remodel funded

The City of Poway got a go ahead on modernizing the east county city's library this week. The COunty Board, on TUesday, approved 1.5 million dollars in project funding.

Councilmembers on the Poway City COuncil approve the funding in May. Upgraes to the City of Poway Library were decided during discussions between the County's General Servies Department, COunty library staff at the library, and the City of Poway.

There is no plan to enlarge the size of the library building Poway residents used in the 1990s. Workers on the county job will remodel the interior, laying in new carpet and installing new lights. Locals will get a new room to visit. Project workers will build a study room. A new look will open library patrons' eyes. New paint project workers paint on to cover the walls.

Walk in visitors can count on polugging in at the remodeled library. The project team will improve the electrical works in the building. And, upgrade the wired Internet the Poway public uses.

The goal is to give Poway locals more opportunity to get the information they are looking for. More Internet servies fit in the city's community service plans. Quality of life in POway ccan grow a little better once the library has more room to use to offer services and programs, and upgraded facilities.

A finish on the remodel project work was planned for June in 2015. COunty Library Director Jose Aponte approved the library upgrade this month.

Two hundred thousand dollars in the approved project funding will fund contruction of a shade structure that covers part of the City of Poway Library patio. Remodeling the shade cover on the patio.

Friends of the Poway Library added 125,000 dollars to the 1 million dollars in city funding, and, the county's Library Fund money.

The county, who operates the city owned library, renewed its agreement to give the public county library services locals have counted on since the early 1900s. County staff will serve the public for another five years. No changes in services at the current location are planned. Funding levels will stay the same. The county service agreement was set to end in August.

County staff handle library circulation, reference, and information servies. And, give readers library advisories. The staff also runs the City of Poway Library's public programs, and, offers adults and children servicecs.

Poway City Councilmembers gave the go ahead on the five year county operations agreement in May.
