Pound cake is one of the most unique forms of cake because it uses a specific, equivalent ratio of four simple ingredients, ensuring the same, even results every time it is baked. As a result of pound cake’s simplicity, it is also one of the easiest forms of cake to make.
Pound cake was originally given its traditional name based on its unique composition, consisting of 1 pound of flour, 1 pound of butter, 1 pound of eggs, and 1 pound of sugar. However, the combination of such quantities of ingredients created such a large cake that the recipe was later modified, keeping the same ratio of ingredients, to better suit an average sized family.
Traditionally, pound cakes are often placed in a bread-loaf pan or a Bundt mold for baking, and are served after either being glazed or dusted in powdered sugar for a light finish.
The simplest form of pound cake has taken on six different variations, including the American South style, the British style, the French style, the Mexican style, the Colombian style, and the German style; check out each style of pound cake provided at the sites included in the following links, respectively.
