Pottery Barn closing store at Austin’s Barton Creek Square

Home furnishings retailer Pottery Barn is closing its store at Austin’s Barton Creek Square Mall on Jan. 15. A store-closure sale is under way, with 20 percent discounts on many items.

An email to Pottery Barn customers gave no reason for the shutdown. Closure of the Barton Creek store will leave Austin with only one Pottery Barn, at 10000 Research Blvd. in the Arboretum area. Pottery Barn operates an outlet store in San Marcos.

“We’d like to thank you for shopping and supporting us over the years at our Pottery Barn Barton Creek Mall store,” the Pottery Barn email says. “On January 15th, we will be closing our doors.”

There are no plans to close the Pottery Barn Kids store at Barton Creek. Williams-Sonoma Inc. owns the Pottery Barn chain; there also aren’t any plans to shut down the Williams-Sonoma kitchenware store at Barton Creek.

Also in mid-January, Pottery Barn is closing a store in Orlando, Fla., and a store in Washington, D.C.

In all, Pottery Barn has more than 190 stores in North America. San Francisco-based Williams-Sonoma bought the Pottery Barn chain in 1986.
