A Kickstarter campaign for potato salad has raised $58,850 by Wednesday morning July 9, which will go to a man who claims he is embarking on his first attempt at making potato salad. Potato salad is an all-American summer salad and apparently the online world thinks that Zach Brown’s attempt at making his first batch is worth at least 60 grand, evident by the online pledges at Zach Brown's Kickstarter page for potato salad.
Kickstarter, one of the most popular crowd-funding websites was the place Brown went to write “Basically I’m just making potato salad. I haven’t decided what kind yet.” He asked for $10 for this endeavor. Somehow this snowballed and Brown’s project was backed by more than 4,768 people by Wednesday mid-morning and he still has almost a month to go on this Kickstarter crowd funding campaign, according to USA Today. The sky is the limit on the amount of money he'll see donated.
Kickstarter said in a statement “There’s no single recipe for inspiration,” when talking about Zach Brown’s phenomenal response for his potato salad. Brown added new “stretch goals” throughout the campaign so far, with one being “better mayonnaise,” according to MSN News.
After seeing this campaign take off the way it did, Brown said “I honestly don’t know what is realistic anymore.” This bizarre project is nothing new. One such campaign was looking only for $8 for a creative presentation so he could explain the “deliciousness of a chicken burrito from Chipotle.” Folks online thought that was worth about $1,000, which is what that person netted in his campaign.
Brown, who has almost $60,000 in donations so far, has until Aug. 2 for this campaign to build. He has made no promises about the taste of the product he plans to create. He said “It might not be that good. It’s my first potato salad.”
You have to admit, you can’t make this stuff up! Only in America can a guy with the ambition to make his first bowl of potato salad raise tens of thousands of dollars in backing to do so! This also seems to indicate that people out there have a lot of extra cash on their hands!
