Creamy Cheesy Potatoes Recipe
Ingredients for Cheesy Potatoes:
- 6 potatoes, raw, unpeeled and sliced
- Garlic powder, Rosemary, Salt, Pepper (to taste)
- Ham, cut in bite-sized pieces (optional)
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 5 tablespoons flour
- 3 cups milk
- 2 cups cheese (cheddar, Swiss, pepperjack, co jack – or a combination)
Directions for making Cheesy Potatoes:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Butter a 3-quart baking dish.
Layer ½ of the potatoes into the bottom of the baking dish. Sprinkle the potatoes with garlic powder, rosemary, salt, and pepper.
If you are adding ham, sausage, onions, mushrooms, etc., you would place your chosen ingredient evenly over this first layer of potatoes.
Top with the remaining potato slices, sprinkle with garlic powder, rosemary, salt, and pepper.
In a large skillet: Melt the butter over medium heat. Once it is melted and bubbly, add the flour and stir with a whisk for at least 1 – 2 minutes. Whisk in the milk and cook until the mixture has thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in the cheese all at once and stir until melted – about 30 – 60 seconds. Pour cheese mixture over the potatoes. Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake 1 ½ hours. Remove foil and serve.
