The recent events in our nation’s capital have brought up post partum depression as a possible reason for Miriam Carey’s car chase according to Time Magazine. As sad and scary as the events of this week were, the worst part is that there are resources available to help people, men and women alike, who are dealing with depression following the birth of a child.
Reports indicate that there was much more going on in Carey’s life including job loss and personal injuries, but even these don’t add up to a reason for her actions. The one hope is that her infant daughter is raised in a strong home where she can receive the support that her mother may have been lacking.
Lastly, while women usually get mentioned when people talk about post partum depression, it is increasingly being recognized as something that can affect men too. A previous article provided multiple resources available for both men and women to help with post partum depression.
