Post-Christmas yarn sales at the local yarn shops

As the last of the wrapping paper is being recycled and people are returning to their normal routines, local yarn shops all over Chicago are opening back up after a one-day hiatus to offer great deals on their yarns and notions. With many stores having their annual inventory and the need for more space for spring yarns, knitters can get great deals on their favorite yarns post-Christmas.

Out in St. Charles, Wool and Company is hosting their annual "If You Think We're Counting All This, You Must Be Crazy" blowout sale, starting at 7:00a.m. on December 28. Customers are encouraged to bring their friends and have some fun padding their yarn stash for the coming year. While exclusions will be posted on the company website on December 26, customers who arrive at 7:00a.m. will receive a ticket for their discount and then be let into the store in reasonably-sized groups for shopping. For the first hour, most yarns will be 40% off and then drop to 30% off during the second hour. From 10:00a.m. until the store closes, most yarns will be 20% off, with all books and accessories also carrying a 25% discount. Some yarns will be marked down up to 75% off, and many of the cafes in the area will be open so customers will have dining options while they wait.

For the first time in their decade of being in business, String Theory in Glen Ellyn has decided to host a Clearance Sale from the day after Christmas until their winter break and inventory count on December 30. From December 26 to 29, the store will be open regular business hours, with some yarns being marked down up to 75% off the original price. While there are restrictions, the sale will also include some pattern books and notions, and some Madeline Tosh DK is even included in the sale. The store, located near the Glen Ellyn Metra station, is open until 9:00p.m. on December 26.

Out in Marengo, The Fold will hold its annual New Years Day sale beginning at 10:00a.m on January 1, 2014. The fold is not just a full-service yarn shop, but they are also known for their spinning and dyeing supplies and workshops for people who want to learn how to make their own yarn. Customers at The Fold treat the New Years Day sale as a party and open house, with spinners gathering to help other newer spinners and regular customers guiding other customers in their purchases.

Up in Mount Prospect, Mosaic Yarn Studio is offering a 25% off coupon on their website to purchase one pair of knitting needles, or one crochet hook, from December 26 to 31. The offer is only valid with the coupon, however the store is open regular hours during this time.

Check your local yarn shop's website or facebook page for the most up-to-date holiday hours, as many small business owners schedule their vacations around the winter months. Otherwise, the winter break is a great excuse for a road trip to a new yarn shop, especially if there are deals to be had. Get a jump start on knitting for next year by getting a discount on yarns this year.
