At the Asbury Park half Marathon held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 Alexandra Trigg of Hernando, Mississippi may have set a new world record for an 8 year old in the half marathon. Alexandra was timed tentatively in a time of 1:54:07 breaking the previous record of 1:54:50 held Heather Welsch of Houston, Texas on December 12, 2010.

Alexandra is a 3rd grade student at Hernando Hill School. She said, ”I am happy just to finish and really happy to break the record before my 9th birthday on June 11.” Her dad remarked that they had been targeting the race for the record breaking attempt. This was Alexandra's 5th half marathon that she has completed. She runs three or four times a week. Her dad remarked, "We are proud of Alexandra and her accomplishments."

Alexandra comes from a long line of accomplished runners and a running family. Her day who ran with her the entire way Mrcus Trigg at age 20 completed the Olympic Trials Marathon in 1983 in a time of 2:18:09. Her grandmother Anne was a USATF National Masters Champion.

Compete results for the half marathon and other events in RunAPalooza are being compiled and will be published soon.

Update: It was designated a world record by the body that maintains those records.
