Possible shark fishing ban at Venice pier in Florida

City leaders are considering a ban on shark fishing at the Venice Municipal Fishing Pier in Venice, Florida.

The possible ban comes after several complaints of fishermen leaving shark bait and blood all over the pier. Scattered stingray parts, used as shark bait, left on the pier from overnight fishing recently resulted in numerous people complaining to city hall.

The city manager reportedly sent the mayor and email last week concerning the possible policy change. Apart from bait left behind, the city is also concerned about the damage fishing hooks and that rats are causing the pier.

Local fishermen are asking that more research be done on the problem with the pier and shark fishing before any type of a ban is placed.

Venice is a city in Sarasota County, Florida.
