Possible new 'Xenoblade' game announced for Wii U (Photos)

Nintendo announced a new Wii U title Wednesday from Monolith Soft, the developers behind "Xenoblade" and "Xenosaga". Unofficially titled "X", the new game appears to be a new take on "Xenoblade" that brings in elements of "Monster Hunter" along with multiplayer and mech combat.

"X" is being developed by Tetsuya Takahashi and the team at Monolith Soft that worked on "Xenoblade" for Wii. The trailer released for the upcoming Wii U title showed characters running around what looked like an open world setting while fighting various gigantic monsters with melee weapons and guns of various types.

The video shows "Player 1" through "Player 3" listed on the screen and what appears to be a chat box. This suggests that co-op multiplayer will be supported in some fashion.

A player is later shown hopping into a transforming mech to take on even larger monsters while dealing massive damage.

A character also appears at the end of the "X" trailer that appears to be Shulk from "Xenoblade Chronicles". This adds credence to the theory that this is a sequel to "Xenoblade".
